NFFF HS Symposium Invitation, 05112023
Good afternoon CFTDA!
Jeff Seaton passed this along to us.
Attached is an invitation to the NFFF High School Symposium on July 22, 2023. I know it is short notice, but may be something that you can attend.
OSFM Centennial Celebration Invitation
As a key stakeholder of the CAL FIRE – Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), it is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us for the OSFM’s Centennial Celebration on May 23, 2023. This momentous occasion marks a century of dedication, service, and sacrifice by the hardworking employees who have served in Office over the past 100 years.
The celebration will take place at The Clubhouse at Cal Expo (1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento) starting at 1 pm. The event will feature speeches, presentations, refreshments, and other activities. It will be a wonderful opportunity to honor the rich history of the Office of the State Fire Marshal and pay tribute to the fire marshal staff who have served with distinction over the years.
We hope that you will join us for this special event. We believe that your presence will help to make the occasion even more memorable and meaningful.
Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/OSFM_Centennial_Registration so that we can ensure that we have adequate seating and refreshments for all our guests.
We look forward to your presence at the OSFM Centennial Celebration
Sincerely,
Daniel Berlant

From Bob Buell,
The Chabot College Fire Technology Program is happy to announce the full-time employment opportunity for a lead Fire Academy Instructor. This instructor will primarily teach fire academy class sessions at the new Hayward Fire Training Center. Our need is for an instructor who currently meets the State Fire Training requirements to teach CFSTES and FSTEP courses as a lead instructor for:
- Firefighter 1 and 2 curricula
- Fire Fighter Survival
- Fire Control 3
- Confined Space Rescue Awareness
- Vehicle Extrication or Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Technician
The instructor should also be a certification examination skills evaluator.
I intend to assist the lead academy instructor as a co-instructor as needed during the first year as we will be adapting to our operations at the new training center.
I am available to answer any questions you may have about the position, especially regarding the time commitment and responsibilities. I have attached the job announcement and the link to the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District’s web page to access the application.

Greetings everyone,
We are working on a letter writing campaign to support SB 577 (Hurtado) (see attachment for proposed bill) which would allow the State Fire Marshal to accept additional funding sources for the California Fire Service Training and Education Program. The bill would make the same change relative to the California Fire and Arson Training Act. Permitting the State Fire Marshall to receive additional funding sources for training programs will help to mitigate rising fees for those seeking fire training certification.
California State Fire Training (SFT) provides curriculum and certification to current fire department firefighters, and individuals seeking a career in the fire service. Over the years the fire service has become more professional and certifications are now required for every position in the fire service. To generate enough revenue, fees needed to be raised by over 200% and in some cases as high as 400%. This has resulted in courses and certification becoming unaffordable to volunteer firefighters and for individuals seeking entry level positions. SB 577 allows the State Fire Marshal to accept additional funding sources for the California Fire Service Training and Education Program.
We would like to see if your institution would be willing to draft a letter () in support of the SB 577. If so, please send Please send a copy to Harrison Pardini at [email protected] and Submit online via Advocate Portal https://calegislation.lc.ca.gov/Advocates/. Thank you for your time, help and consideration.
